August is Water Quality Month. According to the Beverage Marketing Corporation, the average American drinks 29.3 gallons of bottled water per year, making it the second-largest beverage category. In the United States, consumers also opt for in-home water filtration systems to purify tap water. Quality is an increasing concern among consumers due to the variety of contaminants present in unfiltered tap water. This is a great time for businesses to advertise their solutions to water quality issues.
Ad/Promotion Ideas:
• “Filtering systems in the home provide the highest technology available for treatment of drinking water,” reports the Water Quality Association (WQA). The market for these systems is expected to hit $1.6 billion this year, according to the WQA. Encourage business to advertise their filtration systems during this time of market growth.
• During summer heat, it is especially important to stay hydrated. Proper hydration can reduce headache and fatigue and curb appetite according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Suggest businesses advertise their drinking water products along with a list of the benefits of staying hydrated.
• According to the U.S. Geologic Survey, “85 percent of the United States has to cope with hard water…” Look for businesses selling water softener systems to advertise the benefits of using soft water versus hard water.
• Look for businesses that belong to the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA). These businesses are not only held to EPA standards, but also to IBWA standards, which is a great angle to take for advertising (e.g., place the IBWA logo within an ad).
Businesses to Contact:
• Bottled water distributors
• Municipalities
• Water treatment facilities
• Home improvement/hardware stores
• Businesses that sell bottled water: restaurants, golf courses, theaters, malls, gyms, food places, etc.
