While your media might be targeting the general public as opposed to being a specific industry trade, many of your readers are likely working for businesses who buy services and products too.
Do you attract people who tend to work in certain professions or business types? If so, there’s an easy target for special advertising sections. If not, you can still line up advertising that meets more general business needs including:
- Financial: banking, checking printing supplies or services, accountants, auditors, lawyers, insurance agents
- Employee moral: seminars and workshops for skill development, catered appreciation events, anniversary and birthday gifts, treats for coworkers/bosses, vending machines, water coolers, coffee supplies, event supplies, awards and plaques
- Mailing services: packages, business correspondence, postage, marketing and promotional materials, stationary and envelopes
- Technology: internet, phones, computers and printers, tech trouble shooting, presentation audio and visual supplies
- Marketing: website, graphic design, printing, videography, photography, advertising opportunities, networking options
- Outside: lawn mowing, snow plows, landscapers, signage, window cleaning
- Interior: furniture, décor, plants, artwork, painting and remodeling, cleaning services and supplies
- Travel and transportation: car rentals, vehicle maintenance, hotels, airlines, travel agents
Ad/Promotion ideas:
- Special sections featuring topics of interest by business industry (medical, local retail, law, etc.) or professional occupation (accountants, human resources, marketing, building maintenance, CEO, CFO, doctors, etc.)
- Annual or semi-annual state of the industry special sections reporting on progress and development by business sector
- Services directory targeting business needs
- Sponsored “ad” featuring local businesses and how they show appreciation for their staff (i.e., local event rental supply store sponsors a picture from the dentist offices summer picnic)
- Bosses day (October 16) ads featuring gift ideas, lunch specials, sponsored reminders, etc.
