November 20 is the Great American Smokeout. “In the United States, an estimated 25.9 million men (23.9%) and 20.7 million women (18.1%) are smokers”, according to the American Heart Association. The Great American Smokeout is sponsored by the American Cancer Society to encourage smokers to quit smoking for one day with hopes they will quit forever.

Ad/Promotion Ideas:
• According to the American Cancer Society, “smokers are most successful in kicking the habit when they have some means of support.” Contact clinics and hospitals to promote programs they offer to help people stop smoking.

• Businesses could offer a special promotion to those who turn in at least half of a pack of cigarettes. Encourage them to advertise and get more smokers involved.

• Create a sig ad featuring bars and restaurants enacting a one-day smoking ban.

• Create an ad series covering tobacco issues, health effects and the medical cost of tobacco use. Contact local hospitals to sponsor the ads.
