October 1 is World Vegetarian Day, marking the first day of Vegetarian Month. The recently released “Vegetarianism in America” by Vegetarian Times classifies 7.3 million Americans as vegetarians and an additional 22.8 million as followers of a vegetarian-inclined diet. PETA reassures us that vegetarianism is growing, as upwards of 19,000 Americans make the switch each week. Your publication can help celebrate vegetarian culture and provide the best resources for finding activities.

Ad/Promotion Ideas:
• Create a “vegetarian-friendly corner” in food sections of your publication to advertise specific shops and local vegetarian hotspots.
• Design a special section full of advice, recipes, events, news and more.
• Publish a weekly or daily sponsored entry from readers lasting all month suggesting recipes or specific food and drink ideas.
• Host an art contest or a unique story contest specially geared toward vegetarian lifestyles.
• Create a special graphic (or use We’ll Create It) to place in the corner of all ads of vegetarian-friendly businesses.
• Create a sig page for Meatless Mondays where restaurants can list their vegetarian entrées or suggest recipes to shoppers.
