September and October are key months for consumers looking to buy a new computer or upgrade their existing model. Windows 7 will ship to retailers starting October 22, and computer manufacturers will be offering deals for free upgrades with the purchase of a PC. Additionally, Apple’s release of Mac OS X Snow Leopard in September means competition will be fierce in October. Gizmodo reports Apple also plans to unveil its first tablet notebook as well, though a specific date has yet to be announced. Make your publication the best local source for computer hardware and software releases this October.

Ad/Promotion Ideas:
• Create a sponsored “Countdown to Windows 7” or another new release box and post a new feature or ad each issue.
• Publish a special section full of sponsored FAQs, tips, buying advice, promotions, features, etc.
• Create a “PC or Mac?” column on your website encouraging readers to post their arguments and opinions with featured comments in print.
• Make a signature page including all local businesses that will be carrying the latest releases.
• Sell flash banners on your publication’s website.
