National Agriculture Week is March 14-20.
According to a survey conducted by the National Restaurant Association, trends for 2010 include eating locally and sustainably. Chefs are using nearby food sources to populate their menus, and local supplies include everything from seafood and pork to vegetables and wines. Promote local farmers and restaurants as a kick-start to the spring and summer growing seasons.
Ad/Promotion Ideas:
• Create a special section about the benefits of locally grown food. Feature farmers, stores and restaurants that sell locally grown and produced products.
• Feature a weekly sponsored recipe using organic foods.
• Design a signature ad for restaurants that cook with locally grown or produced food.
• Create a signature ad featuring food terms and definitions. Include terms such as “organic” and “sustainable.”
Businesses to Contact:
• Restaurants
• Specialty food shops
• Cooking schools
• Breweries and wineries
• Farmers/growers
• Farmer’s markets
