October 16 is Boss’ Day. National Boss’ Day was started in 1958 when Patricia Bays Haroski, then an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois, registered the holiday with the Chamber of Commerce of the United States. Ms. Haroski chose the date because it was the birthday of her boss, who happened to be her father. This is a great time for businesses to advertise their products and services for Boss’ Day.

Ad/Promotion Ideas
• Look for businesses holding a special lunch promotion, encouraging employees to take their bosses out to lunch.

• Create a “Best Boss” contest in which employees from various companies can write in and explain why their boss deserves this award. The winning company will receive a free ad with a profile of the winning boss and employee.

• Feature items from a local business and make a list of ideas to thank bosses that won’t require much money.

• Have a business send in a gift basket recipe for bosses featuring products from their store.

Businesses to Contact:
• Restaurants and cafes
• Flower shops
• Businesses offering gift cards
• Chocolate or candy stores
• Businesses selling “Boss Day” cards
• Businesses selling gift baskets and arrangements
• Personalized gift stores
