October 5-11 is Fire Prevention Week. Fire departments responded to nearly 400,000 home fires in 2006, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). That’s why this year’s theme of Fire Prevention Week is “Prevent Home Fires”. Your advertisers can help promote the importance of fire safety in the home.

Ad/Promotion Ideas:
• According to the NFPA, the leading causes of home fires are cooking, heating, electrical and smoking-materials. Find businesses that sell related products/services to promote the special safety features.

• Provide a checklist for readers to use in reducing the risks of fires. Surrounded the checklist with by related ads. Or have businesses sponsor each checklist item using our house cut out.

Businesses to Contact:
• Home improvement stores for fire safety equipment
• Fire departments and police stations
• Insurance agencies
• Construction companies
• Heating/Cooling companies
