April 20–26 is Turnoff Week. As people young and old spend more time “plugged in” to electronics, the obesity rate increases. According to a study done by the University of California San Diego School of Medicine, the leading cause of childhood obesity is a lack of physical exercise. To combat this, the Center for Screen Time Awareness supports the National Turnoff Week campaign every year to get people off the couch and unplugged.

Ad/Promotion Ideas:
• Create a sponsored ad series featuring activities for all ages.
• Create a special section featuring articles about childhood obesity.
• Promote a sponsored “Low Tech is the New High Tech” section featuring ways to be physically and mentally healthier.
• Include a contest where people can submit their favorite way to have fun without advanced technology.

Businesses to Contact:

• Recreation centers, parks
• Sporting goods stores, gyms
• Music shops, music teachers
• Libraries, booksellers
• Craft stores
• Cafés
• Museums
• Amusement parks, water parks
• Toy stores
