Hotel Industry Buyers Market

A buyer’s market in the hotel industry increases competition. The New York Times reports that around 100 new hotels will be opening their doors in the first half of 2010, even though room occupancy is down for most already. To help fill those rooms, hotels should be advertising their lower room rates and special amenities. Now is a great time for your publication to sell ad space to hotels and other vacation accommodations.

Ad/Promotion Ideas:

  • Design a signature ad for hotels featuring special weekend deals or room and spa packages. Ad themes might include: Couple’s retreat, A break from the kids, Girls’ weekend or Mother and daughter weekend
  • Use National Tourism Week, May 8–16, to drive ad sales. Create a summer vacation special section where travel agents can feature their all-inclusive packages. Include articles promoting long-weekend or close-to-home vacations for the budget-minded traveler.
  • Feature a weekly travel page with a rotating focus on vacations for every personality, such as Spa vacations, Urban vacations, Active vacations,Road trips or Beach vacations

  • Hotels
  • Travel agencies
  • Car, boat or recreational vehicle rentals
  • Bed and breakfast/boutique hotels
